The 0–100 km/h sprint (or 0–60 mph) is the classic measure of how quick a car feels. You don't need a dyno or a track timing beam to check yours — a phone with GPS can measure it, for free.

How to run a 0–100 test

  1. Open the 0–100 km/h Acceleration Test on your phone.
  2. Tap Start and allow location access.
  3. Come to a complete stop.
  4. Accelerate hard — the timer starts the instant you move and stops the moment you hit 100 km/h.

Your time appears on screen, and your best run is saved so you can try to beat it.

Only do this safely and legally — on a private track or where it's permitted, never on public roads.

How it works

The tool reads your speed directly from GPS. It detects the moment you leave a standstill, then measures the time until you reach 100 km/h (or 60 mph if you switch to mph). Because it uses your real speed over the ground, it doesn't depend on your car's dashboard, which usually reads slightly high.

Getting a consistent, accurate result

GPS timing is good, but a few things make it more repeatable:

Why your time might differ from the brochure

Manufacturer figures come from ideal conditions: perfect grip, a skilled launch, light load and often a downhill-neutral track. Real-world runs with passengers, fuel, road grip and a normal launch will usually be a little slower — that's completely normal.

More than just 0–100

The same tool also shows your live speed, top speed, average and distance, so it works as a full GPS speedometer too.

Give it a go safely on a track or private road — open the 0–100 test and tap Start.
