How big is 1 acre?
- 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft = 4,840 gaj (sq yards) ≈ 4,047 sq m.
- That's roughly 60% of a football (soccer) pitch, or about 16 tennis courts.
- In plot terms, it's about 36 plots of 30×40 ft (1,200 sq ft each).
So when someone says "one acre", picture a bit more than half a football field.
How big is 1 bigha?
Bigha varies by state, but to give a feel:
- Rajasthan / Bihar / UP: ~27,000 sq ft — about 0.62 acre, or roughly 22 plots of 30×40 ft.
- Madhya Pradesh: 12,000 sq ft — about 0.28 acre.
- Uttarakhand: 6,804 sq ft — about 0.16 acre.
So "1 bigha" can be anything from a sixth of an acre to nearly two-thirds of an acre, depending on where you are.
