"One plot" sounds like a unit, but it isn't. A plot simply means one parcel of land in a layout, and its size depends on how the colony or developer divided the land. That's why "1 plot size in square feet" has no single answer — but most plots fall into a handful of standard sizes.

Common plot sizes in India

Plot size (feet) Square feet Gaj (sq yd) Square metres
20 × 30 600 66.7 55.7
20 × 40 800 88.9 74.3
25 × 40 1,000 111.1 92.9
30 × 40 1,200 133.3 111.5
30 × 50 1,500 166.7 139.4
30 × 60 1,800 200 167.2
40 × 60 2,400 266.7 223
50 × 80 4,000 444.4 371.6

The 30 × 40 (1,200 sq ft) plot is the most common residential size in many Indian cities, especially in Bengaluru-style layouts, while North Indian colonies often quote plots in gaj (100 gaj, 150 gaj, 200 gaj).

How to calculate any plot's size

For a rectangular plot:

  1. Square feet = length (ft) × width (ft). A 33 × 60 plot is 1,980 sq ft.
  2. Gaj = square feet ÷ 9. So 1,980 ÷ 9 = 220 gaj.
  3. Square metres = square feet ÷ 10.764. So 1,980 ÷ 10.764 ≈ 184 sq m.

Or just enter the length and width into the Plot Area Calculator — it shows sq ft, gaj, sq m, acre, cent and guntha at once, and draws the plot to scale.

Plots that are not perfect rectangles

Real plots often have unequal sides — say 30 ft at the front, 34 ft at the back, and 50 ft deep on both sides. Take the average of opposite sides and multiply:

For L-shaped or irregular plots, split the plot into rectangles (and triangles, where area = ½ × base × height), work out each, and add them up. For registration, rely on the measurement in your sale deed or the survey record, not an estimate.

Plot size in other units

Plot kitne square feet ka hota hai? (Hinglish)

"1 plot" ka koi fixed size nahi hota. Sabse common size 30×40 = 1,200 sq ft (lagbhag 133 gaj) hai. Apne plot ki lambai aur chaudai (feet mein) ko guna kijiye — wahi square feet hai; gaj ke liye 9 se bhaag dijiye.

Once you know the area, the Land Price Calculator turns it into a total price from any per-sq-ft or per-gaj rate.
