You've got your photo ready and then the form says "light blue background" — or "white background only". Pick the wrong one and it gets rejected. Here's a simple guide to which colour goes where, and how to switch in seconds.
Why the colour matters
A plain background makes your face easy to detect and verify, both for a human checking the form and for automated systems. Forms specify a colour so every photo looks consistent and the face stands out clearly. The two common choices are white and light blue — and the form's instructions are the final word.
Who usually asks for white
White (or very light off-white) is by far the most common requirement:
- Indian passport and most visa applications
- Most government exam and recruitment forms (SSC, UPSC, and many others)
- Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho product photos (pure white)
If the form just says "plain light background" with no colour named, white is the safest default.
Who usually asks for blue
Light blue shows up in specific places:
- Some ID cards and office/employee IDs
- A few state and organisation forms that name blue explicitly
- Certain older passport styles in some countries
Only use blue if the form (or your workplace) specifically asks for it. Don't assume.
The rule to remember
Read your form's instructions and match exactly. If it names a colour, use that colour. If it only says "plain" or "light", go with white. When in doubt, white is accepted far more widely than blue.
How to switch between them
You don't need two different photos. With the Photo Background Remover:
- Add your photo — the background is removed automatically.
- Tap white or blue (or any custom colour) to see the result instantly.
- Download the JPG.
If your form needs an exact pixel and KB size too, the Image Resizer is linked right under the result and your photo carries over.
Quick answer
Most Indian passport, visa and exam forms want white. Use blue only when a form or ID explicitly asks for it. Either way, you can switch in one tap for free — nothing is uploaded. Try it on the background tool.
