Frequently asked questions
How accurate is a phone bubble level?
Phone motion sensors (accelerometers) are generally accurate to within about half a degree once calibrated, which is close to a basic physical spirit level. For critical, professional-grade work (structural, plumbing) still use a proper spirit level or laser level to double-check.
Why do I need to calibrate it?
Every phone's sensors sit at a very slightly different angle inside the case, so “flat” on the sensor isn't always perfectly flat in reality. Tap Calibrate while your phone rests on a surface you know is level (or want to treat as your reference), and readings from then on are measured against that exact point.
Does this work on iPhone?
Yes. iOS will show a one-time prompt asking to allow “Motion & Orientation Access” when you tap Start — allow it, and the bubble level works the same as on Android.
What's the difference between Surface, Vertical and Angle mode?
Surface is for a flat, horizontal object like a table or shelf. Vertical is for checking something is truly upright (plumb) against gravity, like a wall or a door frame. Angle mode shows a single number — useful for reading the exact tilt of a ramp, board or hillside rather than just “level or not”.
Does it work on a laptop or desktop?
No — laptops and desktops don't have the motion sensors (accelerometer/gyroscope) a bubble level needs. Open this page on a phone or tablet.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Your phone's sensor readings are processed entirely in your browser and are never sent to a server or stored.
